The first doctors, nurses and paramedics vaccinated on 27 December against COVID-19 in Poland have written down the history of fighting the pandemic. This group includes Lublin ophthalmologists as well as other medical workers in five hospitals in the Lublin province.  Among the staff vaccinated this morning is Professor Robert Rejdak, head of the General Ophthalmology Clinic and vice-rector of the Medical University of Lublin, and at the same time president of the Association of Polish Ophthalmology Surgeons.

– I have been waiting impatiently for this day, so I am very happy that I have been vaccinated today – confesses Prof. Robert Rejdak. – The injection was completely painless. I almost didn’t feel it in comparison with a slight ailment of flu vaccination. I am generally in favour of all vaccinations. I do it regularly to protect myself from diseases. In the General Ophthalmology Clinic we take many patients for various treatments every day, so for the medical staff the COVID-19 vaccine is a guarantee of our safety in contact with patients and vice versa. I would like to emphasize that vaccination among the staff is a desire for maximum epidemiological safety also for our patients. I encourage everyone to have universal vaccination to avoid this dangerous disease. After three weeks, on January 18th I will also receive a second dose.

Specialists argue that the risk of complications after vaccination with COVID-19 is negligible. Out of more than 3 million people vaccinated worldwide, only 8 cases have shown allergic symptoms. The latest generation vaccine is available in more than 40 countries outside the European Union.  The more people use it, the faster we will be able to fight the epidemic. In the Lublin Voivodeship, the medical personnel have started vaccinating without the slightest fear.

The Governor of Lublin Voivodeship, Lech Sprawka, informed that in the first round, 900 doses of the vaccine have already been delivered to hospitals in the Lublin Province. The vaccinations started today in the SPSK1 hospital in Lublin as well as in five other hospitals: the provincial hospital in Krasnicka Avenue in Lublin and hospitals in Puławy, Zamość, Biała Podlaska and Chełm.
