Prof. Robert Rejdak appointed Visiting Professor of the University of Palermo

The multifaceted clinical, scientific and didactic cooperation between the University Ophthalmology Clinic in Lublin and Italian ophthalmologists, which has lasted for two decades, has grown even stronger. Professor Robert Rejdak, head of the clinic, has become a Visiting Professor of the University of Palermo. He begins the first of a four-week stay there on April 8, and will give an honorary lecture in Palermo on April 11, opening the Italian and Sicilian Ophthalmological Society Convention.

– International cooperation with world centers in many countries has been our tradition for many decades, informs Prof. Robert Rejdak, head of the Department of General and Pediatric Ophthalmology at the Medical University of Lublin, vice-rector for internationalization and digitalization. – We greatly value our scientific and clinical contacts with our Italian partners. For the past two decades, I have worked intensively with a number of centers within Italy, from Milan to Sicily, as well as with the European School for Advanced Studies in Ophthalmology (ESASO) in Lugano, Switzerland, whose director is Prof. Giuseppe Guarnaccia.  It is an international education center for specialists in the latest technologies used in retinal surgery, glaucoma and other eye diseases.

Prof. Robert Rejdak is the first Polish ophthalmologist to serve as a Visiting Professor in Italy. Each of the four-week stays at the Department of Ophthalmology in Palermo, headed by Prof. Enza Bonfiglio, is filled with a very intensive program of lectures, seminars and exercises in physiology, surgery and pathology of the eye. Students and ophthalmologists entering the profession will participate.

– I am proud of my active cooperation with Prof. Bonfigilo, who invited me to Palermo, as well as our scientific contacts with the team of Prof. Teresio Avitabile from the Department of Ophthalmology at the Medical University of Catania,” emphasizes Prof. Robert Rejdak. – He is a great authority in the field of Italian, European and world ophthalmology. He has been a mentor and promoter of many prominent Italian ophthalmologists. We are very happy in Lublin about our clinical and scientific cooperation with such a significant authority in the world of ophthalmology. We are connected with Prof. Avitabile, as well as with Prof. Enzo Bonfiglio, by dozens of joint articles and scientific projects, we sit together in international bodies and participate in bilateral visits of both countries. I am very pleased that the culmination of this long-standing cooperation is the awarding of the title of Visiting Professor of the Department of Ophthalmology of the Medical University of Palermo.

Prof. Robert Rejdak’s scientific and clinical achievements have been valued for many years by the world’s ophthalmological bodies, which is why he was entrusted to deliver the honorary opening lecture at the Italian and Sicilian Ophthalmological Society Convention in Palermo on April 11.  The professor is not only the first Polish ophthalmologist to hold the honorary position of Visiting Professor in Italy, but he is also the only Doctor Honoris Causa in ophthalmology.  The head of the Lublin Clinic was awarded this prestigious title last year by Lviv’s Danyl Halitsky National Medical University.
